Scientists have known for some time that your blood contains growth factors that will stimulate collagen formation and tissue healing. These factors are released into your tissues following injury or skin damage.
Studies have shown that if these factors are extracted from your own blood, concentrated and re injected into your skin there is the potential to halt or even reverse the effects of ultraviolet (sunlight) exposure. The potential to rejuvenate your skin reducing wrinkles, improving texture and elasticity have all been researched and demonstrated. These effects can produce the appearance of a subtle “lift’ however the outcome of treatment will not look the same as if a surgical lift were performed.
Studies have also shown that PRP treatments enhance the effectiveness of laser skin rejuvenation treatments.
PRP treatment requires the taking of a small blood sample from a vein in your arm as if you were having a blood test at the hospital. The blood is then treated in clinic by removing the red blood cells through a process that results in producing ‘platelet rich plasma’, PRP, which is then re injected into the skin or applied to larger areas using the ‘derma pen’.
PRP is an especially effective treatment for reducing the fine lines around the eyes and mouth (smokers lines). There is also potential to improve acne scarring, the appearance of dark shadowing under the eyes and PRP will make your skin look younger, plumper and fresher.
PRP can also be used to treat androgenic alopecia (a specific form of hair loss).
PRP is an effective treatment if used wisely for suitable clients. As with a number of other medical skin treatments the results are not seen immediately after treatment. The effect will not be seen for several weeks, typically six to twelve weeks and a noticeable effect may be seen for twelve – eighteen months. The treatment needs to be repeated to maintain an ongoing effect.
Blood can be harvested in the morning and 'kept' to encourage even further growth factors. Blood is typically held for 6-12 hours to encourage stem cell growth....then re-administered into the skin via a micro-needling injection technique.....
